Oakridge - Welcome to Oakridge International School- International Schools-
 
Since it’sinception ,Oakridge International School has had the unique distinction of starting the first resource room for students with learning and behavior difficulties in Hyderabad.  The “Child psychology & Supportive Instruction Unit “ has been headed by a highly qualified and experienced clinical psychologist with a team of committed remedial instructors who have been actively involved in initiating innovative programs such as the following.

A)   Remedial Instruction program (Resource room model) for children with learning problems  in  reading, writing, spelling and Mathematics in S.I unit

B)   Psychological Testing:
  1. Psycho-educational assessment
  2. Cognitive functions testing
  3. Developmental assessments
  4. Aptitude testing
C)   Individual Counseling program for students  referred with emotional / behavior difficulties and their families.
D)   Teacher guidance for classroom Interactions  for  implementing  BMP (Behaviour modification Plan) in the classroom.
E)   Teacher Awareness workshops on Learning & Emotional issues in  children.
F)    Guidance classes for students of Junior & Senior School on topics relating to:
  • Teenage problems
  • Peer pressure
  • Bullying
  • Self esteem
  • Lack of motivation and poor study skills
  • Career goals
  • Stress  management
  • Child safety and protection from abuse
  • Puberty awareness and change
  • Gender sensitization
G)  Group sessions:
  • Remedial instruction during summer /winter vacations
  • ADHD group sessions for hyperactivity and    disruptive  classroombehaviour.
  • Group sessions for Dysgraphia (writing difficulties)\
PAT - PROGRAM FOR ACADEMICALLY TALENTED STUDENTS
 
  • The program for academically talented students - PAT is known for the wide array of challenging & enrichment activities in language arts which is being offered to the students of grade level V and VI as extensions of the enriched curriculum.
  • The intent of the PAT  is to identify and reach out to motivated and high-ability students  in a  language arts , and offer them opportunities to deepen their interest in the field and to learn from practicing meaningful and challenging activities.

  • The philosophy behind the PAT is that strong interest in a subject or topic provides unequalled internal motivation and acts as a powerful driving force along the way of self-directed and independent learning.
  • The role of PAT is to stoke that special passion in the individual learner and open doors for the willing and committed.

ESL PROGRAM - ENGLISH AS THE SECOND LANGUAGE

  • The ESL classroom aims to serve as a social and cultural centre .It strives to promote internationalism and the students are encouraged to adapt an open and communicative approach to the world around and learn to function as global citizens.
  • The program aims to strike a balance between the students ESL and formal curriculums where by students are simultaneously acquiring language skills while developing ability to comprehend other subject areas.
  • The ESL program was established to help the many international students who join with very little exposure to English language in their own countries.
  • The ESL program acts a bridge to help bring up students competencies in English to a certain level where they are able to comprehend class room instructions in all subjects
  • ESL not only caters to the foreign students but also to the students who require help in improving their language skills in English.
  • ESL program is designed to enhance their language proficiency and communication skills. Students who can be helped through this program are:
  1. Children who have a strong influence of their mother tongue 
  2. Have difficulty in expressing their feelings in large groups

  3. Have low proficiency in reading and writing.
  • Communiation skills though can be enhanced in any age, but the most suitable is childhood. Skills developed during this age long last and ensure a successful communicator. Preparing your children for being leading communicators in future is one the responsibilities of teachers so let’s not ignore it.
  • ESL supports children with difficulties in language and communication, students referred by the class teacher from each section  will be assessed in LSRW skills and based on their performance, a program will be  designed  to suit the individual needs, simultaneously working  with the class curriculum and these children will be seated in the ESL room in the period allotted by the class teacher.
