The IBDP is a highly regarded, internationally recognized programme with a standardized curriculum, moderated coursework, and an external examination.
IB courses are equivalent to Advanced Placement courses, and the IB Diploma is widely regarded as equivalent or superior to A levels in the British educational system.
A complete programme involves students taking one subject from each of the six groups, a Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course, completion of an extended essay, (4000 words) and Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) component.
To receive a Diploma, a student needs to have completed at least 3 of the subjects from Groups 1 to 6 at a higher level. Assessment in each group involves a combination of terminal examination papers and coursework.
Subjects are awarded a number from 1 to 7 with 7 being the highest. The TOK and the extended essay are worth an additional 3 points. It makes a maximum score of 45 points for a Diploma.
To be awarded with a Diploma, a student must have a variety of conditions satisfied, some of which include: a minimum of 24 points overall, with no 1or 2 grades at higher level and at least 12 points in their higher level subjects.
