Social Conscience

At Oakridge, children also learn to imbibe the values that make them better human beings.

In order to help children develop a sense of responsibility towards their community, Oakridge is involved with various institutions such as Aashirwad - a residential school for children rescued from child labour, SOS Childrens Village, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Nandi Foundation.

The school arranges for visits every academic year, not merely to donate things, but to extend a hand of affection as well. Oakridgers make and sell handicrafts, cards, also collect books, stationery and clothes on their own to make life a little easier for their friends.

Apart from the above, every child in school has to do an hour of community work, once every fortnight where they learn and practice the values of self-less service. Students have to choose to work with one of the following squads to learn that charity begins at home:

  • First Aid Squad: children are trained in First Aid to be of some help to sick or injured people.
  • Campus Cleaners' Squad: children go in groups all over the campus and pick up litter that is shown to the others to educate them on cleanliness of our own surroundings.
  • New Projects Squad: consists of children from higher classes identify possibilities for new community work projects in the locality around the school and submit proposals for taking up the same.
  • Spark Squad: Students edit, visualise and publish the newspaper of the School - Spark.
  • Books Collection Squad: students collect and also store books that can be donated to Aashirwad or similar organizations.
  • Clothes Collection Squad: students collect and also store clothes that can be donated to Aashirwad or similar organizations.
  • Presents Squad: Children collect cards and other small items made by Oakridgers to present to Aashirwad children or members of other similar organizations during our visits there.
  • Gardening Squad, students look after plants and trees to beautify the campus. They also rearrange the indoor plants within the school building from time to time.
